About Janèle Lajoie

My passion for helping clients navigate challenging life events and mental health concerns comes from my lived experience of depression and anxiety from a young age. I was fascinated to learn more about psychology and then ultimately went on to build a fulfilling career supporting others in their healing process.

As an individual beyond the therapy room, I am focused on reducing the negative stigma and hush-hush around mental health.

Having worked in various social services sectors for over 10 years (immigration, disability support, outreach, cultural safety, social work), I now practice from a trauma-informed, intersectional and anti-oppressive framework as a Counsellor. This means that I am sensitive towards the social and cultural aspects of your life and their role in making you who you are - and don't judge you for it!

I pick skills from my expertise that best apply to your presenting concern and combine them to make our time most effective. I am trained in working with Somatic, Narrative, Cognitive-Behavioural, Compassionate Inquiry, Attachment-based, Internal family systems, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) and feminist therapy modalities to also work with survivors of trauma, sexual assault, domestic abuse, postpartum depression, menopause, individuals and partners experiencing issues with sex and sexuality, and the LGBTQ2SIA+ community.

I am a queer woman with French ancestry, and my work takes place on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Coast Salish peoples. I am committed to creating a practice that centers on decolonization, intersecting identities and transformative justice.

I would love to hear your questions over a free 20-min consult - book a time with me here.
